Ethics

At L’Oréal, the way we do business is as important as our financial performance, social and environmental exemplarity or the quality of our products and services. The Group has a strong ethical culture deeply connected to our sense of purpose to create the beauty that moves the world.

Ethics is at the heart of L’Oréal’s commitments

L’Oréal’s ethical principles of Integrity, Respect, Courage and Transparency underpin the Group’s reputation and act as a daily guide for all our employees. This ensures that everyone, in all business domains, follows the same ethical standards wherever they operate.

Code of Ethics to guide “The Way we Act”

In 2023, L’Oréal launched a new edition of our Code of Ethics which reflects the world we operate in and the emerging challenges that our teams face. This new edition, available in 30 languages and as an audio book in English and French, includes new and revised sections on topics ranging from promoting responsible use of technology and the handling of personal data to respecting human rights by providing appropriate working conditions across our entire ecosystem. It also focuses on the critical role of leaders and managers in leading by example and promoting an ethical culture among their teams. Mandatory online training involving complex scenarios is provided for all employees.

Principles for trustworthy artificial intelligence

L’Oréal uses artificial intelligence (AI) to advance beauty science, improve operations efficiency and enhance its teams’ ability to better respond to consumer needs. To strengthen understanding of issues such as reliability, data protection and fairness, the Group published its “Responsible Framework for Trustworthy AI” internally in 2023, aligned with UN standards. This framework is used to train and guide all L’Oréal employees involved in AI projects. It is supported by internal governance bodies to verify that the principles set out in the policy are respected.
